Riff Raff.. The Must Have Accessory for Summer…

July 1, 2020

The Raffia Bag

Raffia is most definitely having a huge moment in the Fashion World this Summer. Its the most sought after material being used for the iconic ‘it bags’ of the season.

Why? My guess would be, that its a very sustainable fabric, and that’s really the priority of every fashion house right now, and so it bloody should be! Plus, it doesn’t come with a huge price tag meaning that its affordable and in aspirational reach for those who would like purchase a ‘designer bag’ at a fraction of the price of a leather counterpart.

The thing I love most about these raffia bags, is that they are versatile. Their at home on the beach, traveling with you, or in the countryside accompanying you on a picnic. They even work for city living and the only requirement is that your raffia bag is reserved for Summer dressing, it doesn’t really work too well in the Winter unless going long haul!

Facts about your Raffia bag…

What is Raffia?

Raffia is made form the segment of the leaves on the palmyra palm, a tree native to regions of Africa, the Philippines and Latin America.

What does it feel like?

You would have thought its all itchy but actually its not, Raffia is soft, pliable, strong durable and biodegradable.

What’s its star quality?

It can get wet! Make sure you spot clean it thought, with small dabs of water.

How Sustainable?

The fabric.. very! Its also biodegradable but the carbon footprint isnt great if your buying it from the US, UK or Europe.

My favourites of the season are…

The Anya Hindmarch Large Walton Bag, this can be personalised with a monogram and each leather initial is hand stitched on. Its £450 and very chic.
This is the Chloe Marcie Basket, right up their on the must have list, so much so its almost sold out! Eeek… hurry! Its made of hand braided raffia and grain calfskin. Its £495 and this is the medium size.
I love this Loewe Paula’s Ibiza collection bag, £1650 from Matches. Its encapsulates the must have shape – the bucket bag with the bohemian vibe of Ibiza with the orange trim.
Saint Laurent, black and tan raffia. Chic and flipping elegant. Love this bag. Its the Nolita and its £2105 if you can get your hands on it!
Part of Stella’s Positively Conscious range this bag is £948 from Stella McCartney. I love the relaxed vibe of this bag and the fact it would be as happy on the beach or on your back bicycling through any city.
Good old Zara, £39.99 and i love the rhinestone effect. This one would look so lovely with a Summer dress.
Prada baby! Love the pink. So vibey and bright. Fuchsia is a big colour this Summer so this is right up there with the bag to get. £1130 from Net a Porter.

The Best of the Rest…
